- Describe alpha-1 antitrypsin, its function, possible effects of alpha-1antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) and diagnosis
- Define the integration of Performance Improvement interventions using the diagnosis and management of stable COPD as a model
- List and evaluate therapeutic options in treating both COPD and AATD
- Confirm the diagnosis of COPD using spirometry and interpret the results for proper management and monitoring
- Identify PI interventions that will facilitate improved, time-efficient clinician practice and improved outcomes.
- Review diagnostic errors, root cause analysis, case studies and risk management measures to prevent errors and increase patient safety.
TARGET AUDIENCE / PROGRAM OVERVIEW / NEEDS ASSESSEMENT
Designed to meet the educational needs of practicing
clinicians and targeted to pulmonologists, allergy
and asthma specialists, PCPs, respiratory therapists,
physician assistants, NPs and allied HCPs
who manage and treat COPD (chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease) patients.
The goal of this conference is to apply evidencebased
treatment guidelines in early detection of
COPD, assess, monitor and manage the disease,
reduce risk factors, exacerbation reduction and prevention,
and recognize and screen for one of its
causes, AATD (alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency). A
demonstration on how to use spirometry and interpret
results through a hands-on workshop and case
studies presentation will be provided, with the ultimate
goal of improving patient outcomes. Prevention
of Medical Errors is a FL licensing requirement
and topics covering diagnostic errors, root cause
analysis, case studies and risk management
measures to prevent errors and increase patient
safety will be discussed.
