NEEDS ASSESSMENT AND SYMPOSIUM GOAL
The focus of this symposium is to update the psychiatric, medical and mental health communities on key issues in patient management. To help clarify the meaning of sometimes contradictory reports in literature, a distinguished faculty will present an unbiased review of research and clinical evidence.
The majority of mental health services are delivered in the primary care setting, where depression and anxiety disorders are among the conditions most commonly diagnosed. In addition, sleep disturbances are a very common concern among practitioners of all disciplines. Of even greater concern is the fact that there are many persons suffering from sleep disorders who never receive treatment. Finally, attention deficit disorder is one of the most common mental disorders that develop in children that if left untreated, can have long-term adverse effects into adolescence and adulthood.
This activity will assist healthcare professionals in identifying patients who suffer from these disorders, provide the most appropriate therapeutic interventions that will help minimize the suffering associated with affective disorders, and enhance their care in order to improve patient outcomes.
