Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is a rare, severely disabling genetic connective-tissue disorder characterized by congenital great-toe malformations and progressive heterotopic endochondral ossification (HEO). Widely regarded as the most catastrophic form of heterotopic ossification (HO) in humans, FOP is frequently misdiagnosed as a malignancy, fibrosis, or other musculoskeletal condition.
